Note

If you are on leave of absence from school, you will be readmitted to your school when you return. You do not need to apply again.

Primary school admissions

If your child is between 6 and 12 years of age, you should enrol them in primary school under the Singapore education system. There are a few ways to enrol your child.

If you are enrolling your child in primary one

You should enrol your child through the primary one registration exercise. The registration periods are:

  • End of June/early July (if you have another child who’s already enrolled in your school of choice)
  • July to August (if this is the first child you are enrolling in your school of choice)

If your child cannot join a school in Singapore at the start of the academic year, you can enrol your child in two ways:

  1. Apply directly to your intended school.
  2. Apply to MOE to place your child.

If you are enrolling your child in primary two and above

You can enrol your child in two ways:

  1. Apply directly to your intended school.
  2. Apply to MOE to place your child.
Please note that you cannot enrol your child directly into primary six, which is the school-leaving year.

Secondary school admissions

If your child is between 12 and 16 years of age, you should enrol them in secondary school under the Singapore education system.

Please note that your child cannot join a school at secondary four, which is the school-leaving year.

If you wish to enrol your child at the start of the academic year

You can enrol your child in two ways:

  1. Enrol through the school placement exercise for returning Singaporeans (SPERS-Sec).
  2. You can consider the direct school admissions exercise if you wish to enrol in these participating schools.

If you wish to enrol your child in the middle of the academic year

You can enrol your child in two ways:

  1. Apply directly to your intended school.
  2. Apply to MOE to place your child.

ITE, junior college, polytechnic & Millennia Institute admissions

If your child is 16 years of age or older, you should enrol them in a post-secondary institution.

For Institutes of Technical Education (ITE)

You should apply directly to ITE. There are no centralised admission exercises for ITEs for returnees.

For junior colleges and the Millennia Institute

If you wish to enrol your child at the start of the academic year, you can do so in two ways:

  1. Enrol through the school placement exercise for returning Singaporeans (SPERS-JC/MI).
  2. You can consider the direct school admissions exercise if you wish to enrol in these participating schools.

If you wish to enrol your child in the middle of the academic year, you should apply directly to your intended school.

For polytechnics

If you wish to enrol your child at the start of the academic year, you may apply directly to your intended polytechnic through the Direct Admissions Exercise (DAE). The DAE is administered separately by each polytechnic. You may wish to visit the following websites of the polytechnics for more information on DAE:
