Primary school admissions

If your child turns 6 or older on next year’s first day of school, you have to enrol them in a primary school under the Compulsory Education Act. The primary one registration exercise takes place in June or July every year.

If your child has a sibling who is already enrolled in your school of choice

  • Registration period: End of June or early July (i.e. Phase 1)
  • Report to school on: Next year's first day of school

If your child DOES NOT have a sibling who is already enrolled

  • Registration period: July to August (i.e. Phases 2A(1) - 2C Supplementary)
  • Report to school on: Next year's first day of school

Secondary school admissions

For students who wish to apply AFTER PSLE results are announced

If your child is taking the primary school leaving examination (PSLE) this year, they will take part in the secondary one posting exercise that takes place after the PSLE results are announced in late November:

  • PSLE results released in: Late November
  • Submit school preference by: 1 week after PSLE results are released
  • Report to school for registration in: Late December

For students who wish to apply BEFORE taking their PSLE

If you wish to apply for a school before your child takes the PSLE through the direct school admissions (DSA), you must apply directly to the school of your choice in June. DSA applications are assessed based on your child’s achievements and talents.

Please note that even if your child is allocated a place in the school through DSA, the eventual admission is subject to the actual PSLE results meeting a minimum requirement.

  • Apply to school by: Late June
  • Application outcome released in: End of August
  • Send school preference form by: Late October
  • Allocation outcome released in: Late November/early December
  • Report to school for registration in: Late December
