Passport: How to apply and renew

Singapore citizens can apply for passports from the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA). New passports are valid for 5 years. If you renew your passport before its expiry date, the remaining validity will carry over to your new passport, up to a maximum of 9 months.

Replacement of lost & damaged passports

If your current passport is lost or damaged, you have to pay, in addition to the passport fee, a non-refundable fee:

  • $50 for the first replacement
  • $100 for the second and subsequent replacements

How to apply online

Apply online using the Application for Passport On-line Electronic System (APPLES) e-Service. You need the following information:

  1. Your NRIC/birth certificate/citizenship certificate number;
  2. Date of issue of your NRIC (if applicable);
  3. Expiry date of your passport (if applicable);
  4. Your contact information; and
  5. Visa/MasterCard credit/debit card, American Express card or Internet banking details.

How to apply by mail or deposit box

Step 1: Complete the application form

You can get the application form through the following ways:

  1. Download the form
  2. Collect a copy from:
  • Passports Unit, Citizen Services Centre, Levels 2 and 3, ICA Building
  • Community centres/clubs
  • Neighbourhood police posts/centres
  • Police divisional headquarters
  • Central Manpower Base, MINDEF
  • eLobby, Level 1, ICA Building

Step 2: Prepare a passport photo

Please ensure that your photo meets the requirements listed on the ICA website.

Step 3: Submit your documents

By mail: Send the completed form to:

By deposit box: Drop the completed form in deposit boxes at the ICA Building at these locations:

  • Level 1 eLobby 
  • Passports Unit, Levels 2 and 3
  • Outside the ICA Building

How to apply in person

Tips

If you are going to the ICA Building to apply for or collect your passport, you should avoid these dates and timings:

  1. Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays;
  2. School holidays, public holiday eve and the day after; and
  3. 8.00 am to 8.30 am, and 11.30 am to 2.00 pm on weekdays.

Your passport photo must meet the ICA’s requirements when you apply for your passport. Otherwise, you cannot proceed with your application.

You can apply for a passport by visiting any service counter at the Passports Unit, Citizen Services Centre, Level 3, ICA Building.

You do not need to complete any forms before your visit. The ICA counter staff will guide you through the application, and print a personalised application for you.

Please bring these documents (original copies):

  1. Your NRIC;
  2. Your current Singapore passport (A police report is required if your passport was stolen. If you misplaced your passport, you need to make a statutory declaration at the service counter); and
  3. One recent passport-sized colour photograph of yourself, meeting the requirements listed on the ICA website.

Applicants below 16 years old must apply in person. You must be accompanied by a "consenting" parent or legal guardian (i.e. the person who will sign your application) with these additional documents (original copies):

  1. Your birth certificate;
  2. Your citizenship certificate (if you are a Singapore citizen by registration and have not been issued with an NRIC);
  3. Your MOE student card (if applicable); and
  4. The NRIC of the "consenting" parent or legal guardian accompanying you. For legal guardians, a legal document of guardianship must be produced.

How to apply from overseas

Apply online: Apply through the ICA website. You will need to produce supporting documents when you collect your passport in person.

Apply in person: Complete the following forms and submit them at the nearest Singapore overseas mission. Required supporting documents are listed on the application form:

Overseas applications require about 3 to 4 weeks to process, provided all relevant documents are duly submitted. the ICA will dispatch the passport to the Singapore overseas mission, where you may collect your passport.

Collecting your passport

If you are living in Singapore, you will receive a pink acknowledgement card by mail, 1 week after the ICA receives your application.

You should collect your new passport within 1 month of receiving the acknowledgement card. Passports not collected within 3 months of application will be cancelled. Your passport fee will not be refunded.

Collecting at the ICA

You can collect your new passport in person at the ICA:

You should book an appointment before visiting the ICA to avoid long queues. Applicants who arrive within 15 minutes of their appointment time are given priority and can expect faster service. Applicants who visit without prior appointment can expect to wait for at least 2 hours during peak periods.

Please note that passport collection on Saturdays is strictly by appointment only.

You need these documents:

  1. Pink acknowledgement card;
  2. Your NRIC; and
  3. Your current Singapore passport (A police report is required if your passport was stolen. If your passport was lost or damaged, you must make a statutory declaration at the counter.)

Applicants below 16 years old must collect in person. You must be accompanied by the "consenting" parent or legal guardian (i.e. the person who signed your application) with these additional documents (original copies):

  1. Your birth certificate;
  2. Your citizenship certificate (if you are a Singapore citizen by registration and have not been issued with an identity card);
  3. Your MOE student card (if applicable);
  4. The NRIC of the "consenting" parent or legal guardian accompanying you. For legal guardians, a legal document of guardianship must be produced; or
  5. If the "consenting" parent or legal guardian cannot be present, they may authorise their spouse in writing to do so on their behalf. The spouse must bring their NRIC.

Collecting from a post office

If you are eligible to collect your passport at at SingPost, this option will be stated in the acknowledgement card. To do so, log in at the ICA website and specify that you wish to collect from a SingPost branch office.

Note that additional fees apply if you collect your passport this way. Details of the service fee are available on the SingPost website.

Collecting from iCollect

With effect from 1 April 2013, suitable applicants who have successfully applied for Singapore Passports have the option of collecting their passports from iCollect, a self-service machine housed at ICA’s eLobby. If you are eligible to collect your passport at iCollect, this option will be stated in the acknowledgement card. To do so, log in at the ICA website and specify that you wish to collect from iCollect.

Collecting from an overseas mission

Please visit the Singapore overseas mission in person with these documents:

  1. Pink acknowledgement card;
  2. Your NRIC;
  3. Your current Singapore passport (A police report is required if your passport was stolen. If your passport was lost or damaged, you must make a statutory declaration at the overseas mission.); and
  4. Additional information form (if you had applied for your passport online).

Applicants below 16 years old must be accompanied by the "consenting" parent or legal guardian (i.e. the person who signed your application) with these additional documents (original copies):

  1. Your birth certificate;
  2. Your citizenship certificate (if you are a Singapore citizen by registration and have not been issued with an identity card).
  3. The NRIC of the "consenting" parent or legal guardian accompanying you. For legal guardians, a legal document of guardianship must be produced; or
  4. If the "consenting" parent or legal guardian cannot be present, they may authorise their spouse  in writing to do so on their behalf. The spouse must bring their NRIC.)
