Dengue is a viral disease that has become a serious concern in Singapore over the past few years. It is without cure and potentially fatal. It is important that you recognise how to prevent this disease from invading your home.

What is dengue fever

Dengue fever is caused by a virus carried by the Aedes mosquito spread through its bites. This breed of mosquito can be identified by the characteristic black-and-white stripes on their body. There are no known drugs that can cure dengue. Its symptoms are severe and the disease can be fatal.

How to keep your home safe

It is vital that you prevent Aedes mosquitoes from breeding around the house so that your family members do not get infected with dengue fever. The 5-step Mozzie Wipeout is a national programme developed to help eliminate the breeding of Aedes mosquitoes around houses across Singapore.

When to take action

The National Environment Agency (NEA) has developed a system to increase awareness among residents on the spread of dengue. The colour-coded alert system informs you of the number of cases in your neighbourhood and what you should do to stay safe.
